Swim and Snorkel with Turtles on Grand Cayman

 In Activities, Environment, Water Sports

Want to swim with turtles or see a baby turtle hatchling emerge from its shell? The Cayman Island Turtle Center is the place to do just that. Go on a fun, family-friendly adventure to learn about and interact with turtles. Don’t miss the twisting turtle water slide or the saltwater lagoon where you can snorkel with turtles. If you are lucky, you might even get the opportunity to see turtles being released on the beach to start their new lives in the open ocean.

Turtles are an endangered species, but with the efforts of the Cayman Island Turtle Conservatory, the turtle population is being restored. They have released over 33,000 turtles back into the ocean since 1968. The Cayman Islands are home to four species of turtles: the Green Sea Turtle, which is the most common, the Loggerhead, the Hawksbill, and the Pelagic Leatherback, which is the most uncommon.

If turtles were not enough to draw you in, they also have animal encounters with birds, sharks, and even a crocodile. Take some time to walk the nature trail or see some of the native Cayman gardens they have on display.

The Conservatory’s main goal is to study the oceans and the ecosystems of turtles to restore the magnificent creatures back to their natural habitat and save them from extinction. But they need your help! By visiting the center, you can learn how humans can do their part in saving the turtles and have fun doing it.
