Turtles Coming In, and Turtles Going Out!

 In Environment, News

It’s turtle nesting season once again here in the Caymans and while we’re a few months away from any nests hatching, last week marked a historic event for our shelled friends!

As part of the Cayman Turtle Centre’s conservation efforts, turtles hatched at the centre are released each year with the hope that they will return to shore to nest and naturally continue population re-growth.

On Wednesday, sixteen green sea turtles were released off Little Cayman. At over a year old, these “head start” turtles have a better chance of surviving and returning to the shores to nest.

For now, we eagerly await the turtles that will leave from our beach, and remind guests to tread carefully!
